Villas in Mijas Costa

The 8 miles of coastline known as Mijas Costa is popular with water sports enthusiasts and beach lovers alike, with a wide range of activities and beaches to choose from. The Mijas Costa stretches from Marbella to Fuengirola, made up of a collection of villages. Some, such as Riviera del Sol, La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda, are resorts in their own right, with a whole host of facilities including shops, restaurants and bars. Head inland and you will soon find the white-washed village of Mijas Pueblo – a typical Andalucian village with fabulous views. The Mijas Costa is also a great spot for golfers, with a number of popular courses nearby.

Local Markets and Shopping

La Cala de Mijas is home to a twice weekly market on a Wednesday and Saturday morning, where you can pick up local fruit and vegetables as well as handmade crafts and pottery. You’ll also find a good choice of shops selling souvenirs as well as every day essentials. Larger supermarkets can be found on the outskirts of the towns, whilst serious shoppers should head to the centres and designer outlets in Marbella.

Bars and Restaurants

There are some great restaurants in La Cala de Mijas, many offering fabulous sea views – perfect for a glass of wine and some tapas. Along the coast you can expect to find many seafood restaurants with lots of fresh fish and traditional Spanish dishes on the menu. If you’re looking for a livelier affair, head to Marbella or Puerto Banus, both famed for their nightlife and exclusive clubs.

Beaches

With the Mijas Costa incorporating 8 miles of coastline, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Stretching from Calahonda Beach to Playa Del Castillo, you’ll find a fabulous choice of sandy and pebbly coves to explore. Many have sunbeds and parasols to hire as well as lifeguards during the summer months. There is also a superb range of watersports on offer from snorkelling and pedalos to scuba diving, jet skis and more.

Family Fun

For a family day out, why not visit the Bioparc Fuengirola? A simulated tropical environment with flowing rivers and waterfalls as well as lots of exotic animals to see, it makes for an interesting and educational day trip! To cool off try the Parque Acuatico Mijas, a small water park with a wave pool, slides and children’s play area.

Places of Interest

The traditional village of Mijas Pueblo is well worth a visit for the spectacular views alone, thanks for its elevated position. With a beautiful mountain backdrop, there are some fabulous boutiques, cafes and restaurants to discover along the narrow streets, as well as some great options for alfresco dining.

The nearby resort of Fuengirola has plenty to offer with a long promenade stretching for miles, lined with a whole host of bars and restaurants. This is a great resort for families, with a waterpark, zoo and fun fair to enjoy.
