Villa Description

Swimming pool, garden and BBQ area

The large grounds are one of this impressive villa's best features. The unique heart-shaped swimming pool is encompassed by a spacious sunbathing terrace and an expansive lawn surrounds the house. Adjacent to the pool is a covered bar and brick BBQ and there's a raised, shaded dining terrace adjoining the villa - the ideal spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Around the far side of the house is the private tennis court and a practise basketball court - non-championship standard, basic rackets, tennis balls and a basketball are provided. There's even a small chapel within the grounds!

Entrance

A private driveway through orchards leads to the entrance of Villa Istar. There is plenty of space to park your hire cars on the driveway and make your way past the swimming pool and up 6 steps to the front door.

Living space

The spacious living area combines the lounge, well-equipped kitchen and 2 separate dining areas, with views over the pool. Patio doors open onto the front, side and rear terraces. Large pictures windows along one wall overlook the lawn and there's also a handy utility room by the kitchen.

Stairs from here lead up to the mezzanine-style first floor which has a pool table and a small seating area. Patio doors on either side open onto a covered terrace with a seating area at the back, and a spacious dining area to the front.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

A corridor from the living area leads to all 4 bedrooms, each with their own en suite facilities. There is a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, which is also accessible from the hall, as well as 2 further double bedrooms each with an en suite shower room. All double bedrooms have patio doors onto a shared terrace. The twin bedroom has an en suite shower room as well as a small walk-in wardrobe and a private terrace.

Villa Location

Villa Istar is located in the quaint local village of Macherado, known for its 14th Century Church of Agia Mavra. There's a mini market and a small cafe in the village, but venture into Agios Sostis for a larger choice of amenities including a wider choice of tavernas, bars and a few small gift shops along the beachfront. Or, why not explore Zante Town, around 5 miles from Macherado?

Local markets and shopping

There's a mini market and a couple of small shops in Macherado, 5 minutes' drive away. If you venture into Agios Sostis you'll find a larger choice of gift and food shops, and there's a more substantial supermarket 3 miles away.

Bars and restaurants

Agios Sostis is a small, traditional Greek resort with a handful of good tavernas, mostly overlooking the beach. If you walk away from the seafront, you'll find a several more restaurants and cafes along its inner streets.

Beaches

Agios Sostis has a small but pleasant sandy beach with views of Marathonisi (Turtle) Island to the west. Sunbeds and parasols are available to hire, and there are many small shops and lovely tavernas lining the seafront where you can take a break from the sun and enjoy a light lunch.

The Bay of Laganas is the next cove along the coast, and is one of the best stretches of sand on the island. Except for pedaloes, you won't find any water sports on the West Coast of the island, to ensure the protected nesting turtles aren't disturbed. Your best chance of seeing one of these beautiful sea creatures is between July and August.

Family fun

Agios Sostis and the islands are great for snorkelling. Further afield is the popular Water Village waterpark in Sarakinado, the well-known Olive Press Museum and the impressive Caretta Fun Park in Kalamaki, all within a 20 minute drive.

Places of interest

Zante is packed with things to see and do! From Agios Sostis Port, you can catch a boat to Marathonisi Island and the Blue Caves at Keri, or go on a turtle spotting excursion! It's also less than an hour by car to Zante's most famous feature - Shipwreck Beach. The beach and shipwreck itself can only be reached by boat from the north or western ports, or you can park up and continue on foot along the clifftop to the viewpoint which has spectacular scenery over the beach, wreck and open sea.

Golf

Although Zante has no real golf courses, there are a couple of great mini golf courses nearby. Fantasy Mini Golf in Tsilivi is around 20 minutes' drive away and has three 18 hole courses as well as a 9 hole course where you can weave your way through the saloon and various dinosaur themed holes. The alternative World Tour Mini Golf in Argassi is also around 20 minutes away.

Other activities

Zante Town is only 5 miles away and is well worth seeing during your stay - its plethora of restaurants, market and fascinating town square make a great day trip. Or, around 30 minutes' drive away, is the small area of Keri which has a great taverna with views of the open sea, and the world's largest Greek flag!

Olive Press Museum

Discover the history of olive oil at the Aristeon Ecological Olive Press Museum, in Lithakia. As you tour through the factory, you will learn about the manufacturing process as well as having the opportunity to sample the delicious olives, oils and products.

Keri Lighthouse

Watching the sunset at Keri Lighthouse is a must – the views are just stunning. It’s a beautiful spot, so peaceful that you can hear a pin drop and is definitely one for the romantics!

Agios Dionysos Church

This impressive Greek Orthodox Church sits in the heart Zante Town, along the waterfront. Home to the relics of Patron Saint of Zante, an annual festival takes place on 24^th August, on which the whole island comes together to celebrate his life.

Water Village

Water Village is located in the village of Sarakinado, 4 miles from Zante Town. You can expect a thrill a minute with plenty to do for all the family. Slide head first on a mat-racer side, get lost down the black hole, and try the Free Fall if you dare! Younger children are catered for too with a dedicated Splash Zone and there's a lazy river for a more leisurely ride. Water Village makes a fantastic day out.
