Villa Location
Villa Rastoni is located in the small village of Vingla, a little over a mile from the seaside resort of Kalami. The resort has a wonderful pebble beach lined with several small shops and Greek tavernas, including the famous White House restaurant - former home of authors Lawrence and Gerald Durrell. The quaint little harbour and wonderful seafood restaurant of Kouloura is 5 minutes away too, and there are plenty more places to visit within easy reach by car or boat. Our Villa Armonia is next door.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Kalami has a few small gift, beach wear and food shops where you can pick up daily essentials and souvenirs. Serious shoppers will enjoy a day out in Corfu Town, 50 minutes' drive away, which has a huge choice of gift shops as well as well known high street brands.

Bars and restaurants

The resort is focused on the beach which is lined with several good tavernas, as well as the famous White House restaurant on the far side of the bay. Once home to authors Lawrence and Gerald Durrell, the building is now a popular taverna with tables on the terrace overlooking the beach.

On the other side of the headland, a short walk from Kalami, is the pleasant area of Kouloura which has a lovely seafood restaurant right on the waterfront, overlooking its small circular harbour.

Although Kalami's beach is pebbly, it's still ideal for sunbathing and swimming and the tavernas are perfect for enjoying a spot of lunch during the day. Several alternative beaches can be found within a short drive, you can even hire a motorboat and explore some of the more hidden coves only accessible from the sea - remember to take a picnic!

Family fun

Children will love paddling or snorkelling at the beach. The island also has a large waterpark called Aqualand, 50 minutes' drive south.

Places of interest

If you're interested in seeing more of the island, there are plenty of places to visit within easy reach by car. Corfu's highest point, Mount Pantokrator, is a must-see for scenery lovers, with the whole of Corfu and the Albanian coastline visible from the peak. The views from Paleokastritsa are incredible too, where the mountain-top cafes overlook the open sea and shoreline. There are various quaint Greek villages dotted around the island - Old Perithia on the north coast is particularly charming.

Corfu's only golf course is located an hours' drive away, in the Ropa Valley.

Other activities

A small selection of water sports are available at Kalami Beach during the summer. You can also hire a motorboat and explore the island from the sea. Or, if you'd rather keep your feet on dry land, driving, walking or cycling are a great way to see the beautiful countryside and scenery. The coast road which runs along the island is easy to follow and connects Corfu Town to all the resorts along the north east coast - perfect for exploring the island!

Activities and things to do
Boat trips
The beautiful 14 meter motor yacht, the Nautilus, offers trips around the North East coast of the island or a day or night time cruise round to Corfu Town. The boat has a BBQ and passengers will also have the chance to swim from the boat - perfect for snorkelling!

Paleokastritsa has little boats that take up to 20 people on small tours to the nearby caves. The tours last about an hour and are a lovely way to admire the dramatic scenery and small caves of the West Coast.

Calypso glass bottom boat leaves from Corfu old port on a regular basis. A large glass bottom boat it takes big groups to a spot just off the island of Vidos. The round trip takes about an hour and children can see sea lions and the fish around the island.

Horse & buggy rides
The evenings in Corfu town are a delight for families.

A fun thing to do is to take the horse and trap for a small tour of the town. You will see them around Corfu Town and you should ascertain the cost before getting onboard. It is well worth the hour you spend holding up traffic.

Alternatively, you may prefer to jump on the tiny train for a trip around town.

The park and the Liston area is alive with families drinking coffee whilst their children play ball on the cricket pitch or ride on the small battery powered cars in the park.

Pantocrator Mountain
The highest point of Corfu and standing majestically overlooking the North East corner of Corfu, Corfu Town and the mainland beyond.

One of the many beautiful driving routes on the island takes you up through several small villages including Spartillas, known (along with its sister village Lakones on the opposite coast) as 'the balcony of Corfu' because of its spectacular views.

Follow on through Strinillas, one of the original hidden villages, built out of sight of the coast and therefore the marauding pirates of the time and up a narrow road to Mount Pantocrator the highest point on the island at 906 metres.

There is also an adventurous drive from the North of the island, but this is best done in a four wheel drive vehicle.

The last section of the road is better walked by the nervous but the fantastic panoramic views from the monastry and café, at the top are well worth the effort.

Paleokastritsa is commonly thought to be one of the most beautiful parts of Corfu. The main road leading into the resort is dotted with a choice of good tavernas, many with superb views over the rolling hills to the seafront. The resort also has a choice of excellent sandy beaches. Some of the smaller hidden beaches can only be accessed by boat, which you can hire to explore this area of coastline, or catch the water taxi. The area is popular with families, with a number of attractions. Aside from the beaches and stunning scenery, you can visit the blue water caves, hire a pedalo or even visit the local reptile house!
Virtually all major beaches and many of the smaller ones have water sports of one form or another available.

Generally pedalos and small canoes can be found everywhere and sports activities include water-skiing and water boards, para-gliding, ringos, banana boats and the latest 'fish' which works on a similar principal.

Most water sports jetties offer lessons and some offer courses for children.

There are very few places that now offer jet skiing. One beach is Gouvia beach where a qualified instructor has tow jet skis available for hire.
