Villa Description
Swimming pool, BBQ area and outside space

The superb sea view is best enjoyed from the privacy of your own pool terrace and garden. There is a wooden table and chairs and brick BBQ for alfresco dining, or you can relax on the comfortable chairs which are shaded from the sun. To one side of the main pool is a small, shallow pool, ideal for keeping cool with a book while still enjoying the sunshine.


Entrance

A private gated driveway leads down to the villa entrance. There is plenty of parking to the side and back of the property.


Living space

The combined lounge, dining area and kitchen is exttremely spacious with patio doors framing that glorious view, creating a bright and airy living space. The large, comfortable lounge area has an ornamental fireplace and flat screen TV. There is also a table and chairs and fully equipped kitchen with patio doors to the side terrace.


Bedrooms and bathrooms

On the ground floor is a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom and patio doors onto the pool terrace. There is also a separate WC.

Upstairs are 2 twin bedrooms sharing a separate bathroom, and a double bedroom with en suite bathroom. All 3 bedrooms have access to a large shared balcony overlooking the bay of Kalami. There is also a third twin bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

Villa Location
The location of Villa Mara could not be better. Elevated slightly from the street, you are assured fantastic scenic views over Kalami, with the beach and tavernas of the resort only 10 minutes' walk away. You can also take a stroll to the charming harbour of Kouloura or easily reach any of the neighbouring resorts within a short drive. Villas Mary Lou and Anastasia are next door.

Location features

Shops and restaurants

Located along the road which leads to Kalami in one direction and Kouloura in the other, Villa Mara has a number of excellent tavernas right on its doorstep. A gentle 10 minute stroll downhill will bring you to the seafront tavernas of the resort, surrounding the beach. A particular highlight is the beautiful White House Taverna, seen across the bay from the villa. Once the family home of authors Lawrence and Gerald Durrell, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit during your stay. A 15 minute walk along the road to the north is the charming fishing harbour of Kouloura. Here you'll find a lovely little beach, a quaint circular harbour and a small but excellent seafood taverna.


Beaches

This small but lively seaside resort has a lovely pebbly beach, perfect for snorkelling and swimming, with water sports facilities, boat trips and boat hire all available. Kouloura also has a very pleasant little beach, shaded with huge eucalyptus and pine trees. Or, for very keen walkers, there is a tiny coastal path that leads from Kalami to Agni and Kaminaki to the south, as well as Kerasia and Agios Stefanos in the north, all of which have great beaches.


Family fun

Aqualand waterpark is around 50 minutes' drive towards Corfu Town - a great day out for kids of all ages!


Places of interest

Corfu has some splendid scenery and photo opportunities! For anyone who does decide to hire a car, the views from the island's highest point, Mount Pantocrator, or the area of Paleokastritsa are well worth the journey. Or why not hire a boat and explore the north east coast of the island in true Greek style?


Golf

Corfu's only golf course is an hour's drive away from Kalami on the west coast.


Other activities

Keen walkers can follow the coastal path leading from Kalami to Agni and Kaminaki to the south, and Kerasia and Agios Stefanos in the north. There are various personal boating excursions available from the village plus boat trips to Corfu Town. There is a boat hire jetty if you fancy having a go at captaining your own small craft for the day. Water sport facilities can also be found at most of the beaches along this stretch of coast.

Activities and things to do
Activity
Self drive boat hire
The Corfu is an ideal location to hire a small boat and skipper yourself and family for the day to explore the many coves and beaches. There are a number of resorts where boats of several different sizes can be hired locally. Usually there are boats with tiller steering and ones with steering wheels. Most boats have a sun canopy. All boats have life vests and are fully prepared. You do not need a speedboat licence to drive a boat with an engine smaller than 25hp. Instruction can be given if required.
Activity
Watersports
Virtually all major beaches and many of the smaller ones have water sports of one form or another available.

Generally pedalos and small canoes can be found everywhere and sports activities include water-skiing and water boards, para-gliding, ringos, banana boats and the latest 'fish' which works on a similar principal.

Most water sports jetties offer lessons and some offer courses for children.

There are very few places that now offer jet skiing. One beach is Gouvia beach where a qualified instructor has tow jet skis available for hire.

Waterparks
There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

Corfu Golf Club
Designed by the famous architect Donald Harradine the Corfu course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week.

The magnificent greens of Penncross Bent are considered to be the finest in the Mediterranean, the treelined fairways and the sandtraps combined with several lakes and meandering streams, make an attractive picture against a backcloth of high hills. A new modern irrigation system keeps the golf course in excellent condition even through the hot summer months. Over the past 3 years the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a total renovation. Bunkers have been redesigned, deepened, drained and filled with white sand, shipped in from a nearby Greek island.



Suitable for all levels of player with qualified instructors on hand for beginners and equipment rental available. It is also ideally placed for families who perhaps don't all share the same interest in the sport being a mere 10 minute drive from Aqualand, the largest waterpark on the island, 20 minutes out of Corfu town and 10 minutes from the nearest beach at Ermones.

It has a large well-appointed clubhouse and restaurant and is open all year round.
