Villa Location
Villa Lunaria is a detached property perched on a pretty hillside, offering enviable sea views. It’s positioned just a 5 minute drive from the small, traditional village of Spartilas. Perfect for those who love to explore, many of Corfu’s popular holiday spots are nearby, such as the dynamic resorts of Barbati, Ipsos and Nissaki, reachable within a 15 minute drive. Awash with gorgeous beaches and a great choice of bars and restaurants, this region of Corfu has plenty to offer. Our Villa Oliva is next door while Villa Athiri House is nearby.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Locally, Spartilas has a few shops and a bakery. The nearby resorts of Barbati and Ipsos have a large variety of tourist shops, mini markets and a small supermarket for those daily essentials. Larger shops and boutiques can be found in the capital, Corfu Town, a 30 minute drive away. The capital hosts a farmers' market every week day morning. The old part of Corfu Town is perfect to purchase locally produced goods, souvenirs and enjoy the architecture of this fascinating capital.

Bars and restaurants

You'll find a small selection of charming eateries in Spartilas village, including a restaurant and a cafe but for a wider choice, head to Barbati. Here, a variety of bars and tavernas line the coastal road, offering an idyllic spot for lunch with a view. There are plenty more picturesque settings with traditional tavernas to experience, such as Agni and Kalami to the north, or Ipsos to the south.

Barbati is the closest beach to the villa. It's a long pebbly bay with a wide range of lively beach bars and cafes just behind, ideal for a refreshment between dips in the sea. Heading north, the coast has a variety of coves to explore where you can stop off and swim. Nissaki is a smaller resort with a sheltered bay and seafront tavernas. Sandy beaches can be found at Kalamaki and Roda, approximately 40 minutes' drive away.

Family fun

In Corfu, family fun often revolves around the beaches, with watersports readily available. The pebbly beach at Ipsos has children's inflatables in the sea. For a day out, thrill seeking youngsters may enjoy a visit to Aqualand waterpark, 45 minutes' drive away. With slides, shoots and waves to enjoy, there's plenty to keep kids smiling.

Places of interest

For a scenic adventure, a drive up the winding roads of Mount Pantokrator will not disappoint. Stop for stunning photo opportunities and don't miss the old monastery perched at the top. For a full day excursion, journey across the island to the hilly settlement of Paleokastritsa. Considered one of the most beautiful regions in Corfu, you'll find pristine beaches backed by olive groves and citrus trees as well as traditional hilltop villages with breath-taking sea views.

The island's only golf course is located approximately an hour's drive south, near the town of Ermones.

Other activities

The attractive Kalami Bay is worth visiting. Famous for the White House, the former home of Lawrence Durrell is just 30 minutes' drive away. A little further afield is Kassiopi. Aside from the many dining options on offer and it's pretty pebble beach, it's also home to the ruins of a Byzantine castle. Explore the grounds on foot and admire the views of the harbour below.

Activities and things to do
Until a few years ago the only way to reach agni was by boat or on foot from Kalami. It is suprising therefore that this tiny resort has grown into such prominence. The main reason for this are the three excellent restaurants on the beach that attract visitors from far and wide who continue to come by boat or now by car. Eating is the main occupation of visitors to Agni, and the shingle beach and clear waters offer a chance to cool down before, during or after your meal. All tavernas offer a boat taxi from nearby Kalami or San Stefano.
Corfu Golf Club
Designed by the famous architect Donald Harradine the Corfu course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week.

The magnificent greens of Penncross Bent are considered to be the finest in the Mediterranean, the treelined fairways and the sandtraps combined with several lakes and meandering streams, make an attractive picture against a backcloth of high hills. A new modern irrigation system keeps the golf course in excellent condition even through the hot summer months. Over the past 3 years the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a total renovation. Bunkers have been redesigned, deepened, drained and filled with white sand, shipped in from a nearby Greek island.

Suitable for all levels of player with qualified instructors on hand for beginners and equipment rental available. It is also ideally placed for families who perhaps don't all share the same interest in the sport being a mere 10 minute drive from Aqualand, the largest waterpark on the island, 20 minutes out of Corfu town and 10 minutes from the nearest beach at Ermones.

It has a large well-appointed clubhouse and restaurant and is open all year round.

Corfu Town
The capital of the island and at one time of all the Ionian Islands, Corfu is a joy to discover. With its elegant arcades, narrow Venetian style streets and relaxed friendly atmosphere it is definitely a must for all. A historically strategic and heavily fortified town and port Corfu's history dates back centuries. Evidence of the original site of the ancient Greek city can be seen in the gardens of Mon Repos, the one time residence of the Greek royal family and in the Archaeological museum. Further evidence of Corfu's Historic past can be found simply wandering through the streets. You will come across little Byzantine churches, Italian platias, French arcades and a very British cricket pitch. A walk up either of the two dominating Venetian fortresses that still remain is well worth the effort for the panoramic views across the town, port and sea and for refreshment and shopping you are truly spoilt for choice with a wide range of shaded café bars, restaurants and shops open from early morning until late at night.
Paleokastritsa is commonly thought to be one of the most beautiful parts of Corfu. The main road leading into the resort is dotted with a choice of good tavernas, many with superb views over the rolling hills to the seafront. The resort also has a choice of excellent sandy beaches. Some of the smaller hidden beaches can only be accessed by boat, which you can hire to explore this area of coastline, or catch the water taxi. The area is popular with families, with a number of attractions. Aside from the beaches and stunning scenery, you can visit the blue water caves, hire a pedalo or even visit the local reptile house!
Pantocrator Mountain
The highest point of Corfu and standing majestically overlooking the North East corner of Corfu, Corfu Town and the mainland beyond.

One of the many beautiful driving routes on the island takes you up through several small villages including Spartillas, known (along with its sister village Lakones on the opposite coast) as 'the balcony of Corfu' because of its spectacular views.

Follow on through Strinillas, one of the original hidden villages, built out of sight of the coast and therefore the marauding pirates of the time and up a narrow road to Mount Pantocrator the highest point on the island at 906 metres.

There is also an adventurous drive from the North of the island, but this is best done in a four wheel drive vehicle.

The last section of the road is better walked by the nervous but the fantastic panoramic views from the monastry and café, at the top are well worth the effort.
