Villa Location
Villa Anamelia is in a great position. Sitting up on the hillside above the bay of Avlaki, the villa has spectacular scenery over the surrounding countryside. Less than 5 minutes' drive down the hill are Avlaki's beautiful beach and traditional waterfront tavernas. There are several good beaches along this stretch of coast, including Coyevinas only a few minutes past Avlaki. Plus, there are various sightseeing opportunities, family activities and attractions all within easy reach by car.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

The nearest mini market or supermarket is in Kassiopi, around 10 minutes' drive along the coast. The island's only market is in Corfu Town which is around an hour away by car. The stalls sell everything from clothes and shoes to fresh local food. Along the cobbled streets are several shops selling traditional local gifts as well as larger high street brands and the plethora of places to eat and drink make a visit to the town a great day trip!

Bars and restaurants

A couple of minutes' drive down the hill will bring you to the seafront and the glorious beach at Avlaki. Right by the waterfront are 2 good tavernas with plenty of seating outside to enjoy the sunshine and lovely views over the open sea. For a larger choice of places to eat, or a change of scenery, neighbouring Kassiopi has several good tavernas. Eating here at night is particularly special when the castle above the harbour is lit up.

Although Avlaki Beach is pebbly, it's still ideal for sunbathing and swimming, and the water is so clear and blue - don't forget your camera! A 5 minute drive around the coast will bring you to Coyevinas Beach, which is smaller and has no facilities but is still ideal for swimming or a picnic!

Family fun

Avlaki Beach is perfect for children to paddle or snorkel. There is also a waterpark in Acharavi, around 20 minutes' drive further along the coast, or the island's largest waterpark - Aqualand - is an hour south, towards Corfu Town.

Places of interest

The neighbouring resort of Kassiopi is well worth a visit. This quaint harbourside village has a good choice of both modern and traditional restaurants, gift shops and Greek bars by the waterfront which is overlooked by the well-known Kassiopi Castle. Further afield you can enjoy the stunning scenery from Paleokastritsa or Mount Pantokrator, or why not explore the inland village of Old Perithia? Once abandoned, the village has now been brought back to life with traditional tavernas catering for summer visitors.

The island's only golf course is around an hours' drive south, near the town of Ermones.

Other activities

At the far end of Avlaki Beach is a sailing school, and dinghies and windsurfing equipment can be hired. Hiring your own motorboat or joining a boating excursion are fun and popular ways of seeing the other resorts along this area of coast, as well as some of the hidden beaches only accessible from the sea. If you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, walking or hiking around the resort is a great way to see more of the beautiful countryside scenery.

Activities and things to do
Corfu Golf Club
Designed by the famous architect Donald Harradine the Corfu course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week.

The magnificent greens of Penncross Bent are considered to be the finest in the Mediterranean, the treelined fairways and the sandtraps combined with several lakes and meandering streams, make an attractive picture against a backcloth of high hills. A new modern irrigation system keeps the golf course in excellent condition even through the hot summer months. Over the past 3 years the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a total renovation. Bunkers have been redesigned, deepened, drained and filled with white sand, shipped in from a nearby Greek island.

Suitable for all levels of player with qualified instructors on hand for beginners and equipment rental available. It is also ideally placed for families who perhaps don't all share the same interest in the sport being a mere 10 minute drive from Aqualand, the largest waterpark on the island, 20 minutes out of Corfu town and 10 minutes from the nearest beach at Ermones.

It has a large well-appointed clubhouse and restaurant and is open all year round.

For older children and teenagers a great way to let off a bit of steam is at the paintball circuit in Dassia. Open daily it is just off the main Corfu-Kassiopi road.
There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

Boat trips
The beautiful 14 meter motor yacht, the Nautilus, offers trips around the North East coast of the island or a day or night time cruise round to Corfu Town. The boat has a BBQ and passengers will also have the chance to swim from the boat - perfect for snorkelling!

Paleokastritsa has little boats that take up to 20 people on small tours to the nearby caves. The tours last about an hour and are a lovely way to admire the dramatic scenery and small caves of the West Coast.

Calypso glass bottom boat leaves from Corfu old port on a regular basis. A large glass bottom boat it takes big groups to a spot just off the island of Vidos. The round trip takes about an hour and children can see sea lions and the fish around the island.
