Villa Location
Located on the hillside above Acharavi, Villa Piedra Corfu has incredible views across the resort, over 2 small islands, towards the mountains along the Albanian coastline, off the North Coast of Corfu. The ideal position for those who want a relaxing holiday with the amenities of a busy holiday resort and a variety of beaches within a very short drive. Walkers can enjoy exploring the nearby Agios Spyridon area while the lively resort of Sidari has a wide variety of clubs, bars and restaurants, around 20 minutes' drive away.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Acharavi, being the second largest town in Corfu, has 2 national chain supermarkets, a selection of bakeries, butchers and a local fish mongers. Along the seafront and the high street is a variety of shops where you can shop for souvenirs.

Bars and restaurants

Acharavi also has a selection of popular bars, many open until the small hours. The resort offers restaurants from simple grill houses and pizzerias to seafront establishments offering high quality Greek specialities. The resort of Roda is just 2½ miles away and offers a choice of food and entertainment whilst the resort of Kassiopi, a traditional fishing village with a Byzantine Fortress, is 8 miles away. Heading West, the lively resort of Sidari has entertainment for all with tribute acts and clubs open until the early hours.

Beaches

The main seafront at Acharavi is pebbly with the next resort of Roda having a soft sandy beach. To the east of Acharavi is Almiros Beach with its rugged coastline and the headland of Agios Spyridon with its fine sandy beach.

Family fun

Hydropolis is a great family water park on the outskirts of Acharavi. But for anyone wanting white knuckle water shoots then a trip to Aqualand is a must. There are also many horse riding schools in the area and, being an island, a day at sea is a must by chartering your own private boat or going on an organised sail down to Corfu Town.

Places of interest

Achillion Palace is the former summer residence of Empress Sissy of Austria and the Mon Repo Palace is the birthplace of Prince Philip - both well worth a visit!

Golf

Corfu has one golf course in the centre of the island at Ermones.

Other activities

From Acharavi there is a mountain road that can be walked up, to the highest part of the island at 915m above sea level. The Monastery of Pantokrator is here with its sole resident monk.

Activities and things to do
Activity
Waterparks
There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

Activity
Pantocrator Mountain
The highest point of Corfu and standing majestically overlooking the North East corner of Corfu, Corfu Town and the mainland beyond.

One of the many beautiful driving routes on the island takes you up through several small villages including Spartillas, known (along with its sister village Lakones on the opposite coast) as 'the balcony of Corfu' because of its spectacular views.

Follow on through Strinillas, one of the original hidden villages, built out of sight of the coast and therefore the marauding pirates of the time and up a narrow road to Mount Pantocrator the highest point on the island at 906 metres.

There is also an adventurous drive from the North of the island, but this is best done in a four wheel drive vehicle.

The last section of the road is better walked by the nervous but the fantastic panoramic views from the monastry and café, at the top are well worth the effort.

Activity
The Achilleon Palace
The Achilleon is an impressive summer palace that was built in the early 1890's for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria (''Sissy'') who had a passion for Greece and Corfu in particular. A large imposing building about 5km south of Corfu town through the lovely village of Gastouri the Achilleon is worth the visit particularly for the lovely views from the palace grounds.
Activity
Scuba diving
The clear waters around Corfu are lovely for scuba diving and there are various scuba diving schools around the island. Some of the better known are Water hoppers who operate from Gouvia and Ipsos and Dive Med who have a school on the other side of the island in Paleokastritsa. There is also a diving school in Kassiopi. There are usually opportunities for all levels of diver and for lessons that lead to diving certificates. Always check your travel insurance and take qualification certificates with you when you go scuba diving.
Activity
Corfu Golf Club
Designed by the famous architect Donald Harradine the Corfu course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week.

The magnificent greens of Penncross Bent are considered to be the finest in the Mediterranean, the treelined fairways and the sandtraps combined with several lakes and meandering streams, make an attractive picture against a backcloth of high hills. A new modern irrigation system keeps the golf course in excellent condition even through the hot summer months. Over the past 3 years the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a total renovation. Bunkers have been redesigned, deepened, drained and filled with white sand, shipped in from a nearby Greek island.

Suitable for all levels of player with qualified instructors on hand for beginners and equipment rental available. It is also ideally placed for families who perhaps don't all share the same interest in the sport being a mere 10 minute drive from Aqualand, the largest waterpark on the island, 20 minutes out of Corfu town and 10 minutes from the nearest beach at Ermones.

It has a large well-appointed clubhouse and restaurant and is open all year round.
